Extension offers pesticide training Oct. 30

Pesticide workers can earn up to six continuing education units (CEUs) during Pesticide CEU Day from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, at the Volusia County Agricultural Center, 3100 E. New York Ave., DeLand.
The University of Florida/Volusia County Extension is sponsoring the program, which will have a Star Trek theme. Topics include landscape weed management, safety reviews, work boot safety, foot health and shoe advancements.
The keynote speaker will be Dr. Raymond Wheeler, a NASA plant physiologist and vice chair for advanced life support research for the International Space Station. He will be speaking on agriculture in space, world efforts on space crop production, and the future of agriculture research for life support in space.
The $50 fee includes lunch. Advance registration and payment are required; call for Karen Stauderman or Donna Coriano at 386-822-5778 for the registration link. The number of participants will be limited to allow for social distancing.
