County seeks summer camp providers

Volusia County’s Community Assistance Division has funds for nonprofit organizations, cities, schools and churches to provide summer camp services.

Participating agencies must operate a camp from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday for at least six weeks this summer during the seven-week scholarship program. Services should include supervised playground activities, sports, crafts and field trips for children ages 5-12. Five-year-olds must have completed kindergarten, and 12-year-olds must be entering sixth grade. Camps serving primarily special needs children may accept applicants up to age 17. Camps are encouraged to provide opportunities for healthy eating and physical activity.

Applicants must have proven administrative capacity and at least one year of successful experience in providing summer camp programs.

Funding will be provided from June 14 to July 30 through scholarships to children whose families are at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines. Providers will be paid per child at a portion of the weekly rate, not to exceed the weekly rate established by the Community Assistance Division.

Applications will be available online at www.volusia.org/community-assistance or by calling Jill Marcum at 386-736-5955, ext. 15593. They must be submitted by 4 p.m. Thursday, March 18.

It is preferred that completed applications and supportive documentation is emailed to Jill Marcum at jmarcum@volusia.org. Completed applications may also be hand delivered or mailed to 110 W. Rich Ave., DeLand, FL 32720.

The Children and Families Advisory Board will recommend qualified agencies to the Volusia County Council for final approval.
