Volusia County’s Emergency Rental Assistance program has received more than $16 million from the U.S. Department of the Treasury to assist Volusia County households that are unable to pay rent and utilities due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Applications will be accepted starting at 9 a.m. Wednesday, March 10. Interested households may submit an application online at www.volusia.org/ERA.
For those needing assistance with the application, navigators will be available at the John H. Dickerson Heritage Library, Hope Place Public Library, DeBary Public Library, Edgewater Public Library, Deltona Regional Library, Ormond Beach Regional Library, Daytona Beach Regional Library, Port Orange Regional Library and New Smyrna Beach Regional Library. Navigators will also be available in the Community Assistance Emergency Rental Assistance office, 230 N. Woodland Blvd., Suite 262, DeLand.
An eligible household may receive up to six months of assistance for rent or utilities, including past due rent and utilities. An eligible household is a renter household in which at least one or more individual meets and can document the following criteria:
-
Qualifies for unemployment or has experienced a reduction in household income, incurred significant costs or experienced a financial hardship due to COVID-19;
-
Demonstrates a risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability; and
-
Has a household income at or below 80% of the area median.
Priority will be provided to households that are at or below 50% of the area median income and households that include an individual who has been unemployed for the 90 days prior to the application for assistance.
With finite funds available, the county will close the application window after receiving 1,000 applications to ensure assistance is available for all qualified applicants. As applications are processed and the amount of committed dollars is calculated, additional applications may be accepted to ensure funding is fully utilized. The county will provide advance notice if the application window reopens.
