Soak up the sun at DeBary Hall

Explore our nearest star, the sun, with Derek Demeter, director of the Emil Buehler Planetarium at Seminole State College, at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 29, at DeBary Hall Historic Site, 198 Sunrise Blvd. DeBary.

Demeter will investigate the origins of the sun, the powers it holds deep inside its core, and much more. He will show how astronomers used to observe the sun using a unique sun spotter device during Frederick deBary’s time. Guests will then go outside and observe the sun through a specially designed telescope to safely look at features including sunspots and prominences.

Note: Never look or observe the sun with your eyes or without using a special solar filter.

Attendance is limited; advance registration is required, and guests are asked to wear a mask. To make a reservation, call 386-668-3840 or email lperez@volusia.org.
