Sensational serpents: 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 10. Join staff for a classroom presentation on some of the most commonly seen snake species in Volusia County. After the presentation, participants can meet some of the center’s reptile animal ambassadors.

Planting for the pollinators: 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 20. Stroll through the center’s pollinator gardens in search of butterflies, moths and bees. Staff will share tips on creating an inviting habitat for these nectar seeking species and discuss some of plants that may attract pollinators to your garden all season long.
Build your resilience: 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 24. Climate resilience looks at the big picture, evaluating how communities plan and respond to disruptive events that threaten quality of life. This workshop, which will be offered in the classroom and online, will provide tips on becoming more resilient.
It’s a crab’s life: 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 31. Visit the LEC’s resident saltwater hermit crabs and learn about their environment and connection to the ancient beach of Lyonia Preserve. Staff will also shed light on other intertidal invertebrates during this program, which will be presented in the Discovery Room.
If you will be walking through Lyonia Preserve, wear closed toe shoes, bring water and be prepared to hike on unpaved sugar sand trails.
