Design work to begin on Beresford Avenue extension
Posted On: June 22, 2021
A planned extension of Beresford Avenue in DeLand is about to jump off the drawing board and into the design phase.
On Tuesday, the Volusia County Council awarded a $172,396 contract to design the extension that will take the road from its current end point at South Blue Lake Avenue about a half-mile to the east to connect with the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Beltway. The plan is for the extension to be a two-lane, divided road section. The project also will include reconstruction of the current intersection at Beresford Avenue and Blue Lake Avenue.
The county and the City of DeLand have teamed up to acquire the needed right-of-way on the western end of the project and the developer for the Reserve at Victoria is donating the eastern portion. The developer will also be building the eastern part of the extension as part of its development. Once that portion has been constructed, the county will construct the rest of the road project.
The design work is being done by Zev Cohen & Associates, Inc. of Ormond Beach.
