A retired Daytona Beach News-Journal editor will present a free memoir writing workshop, hosted by Friends of Deltona Library, from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31, at the Deltona Regional Library, 2150 Eustace Ave.
Cindy Casey will present Memoirs: Your Story is Worth Telling followed by question-and-answer periods. The topics include:
- What is a memoir? Learn the differences between a memoir and an autobiography, and the steps to writing a powerful memoir.
- Memoir planning: These exercises will help you plan your story and focus your message into a compelling book.
- Tools and information: Explore the different kinds of literary devices authors use to keep reader interest. Also, memoirs can be a slippery slope when it comes to privacy issues. You’ll learn how to avoid getting sued.
Casey is a seasoned editor with a 40-year, award-winning journalism career with small and large daily newspapers, as well as industry and specialty magazines. Most recently, she spent 12½ years as editor for the community news, features and special publications departments at the News-Journal.
Following her retirement from newspapers, she began a book editing and publishing business working with authors of a variety of genres from around the country.
