County offers training on FEMA elevation certificates

Posted On: October 19, 2021

Volusia County’s Growth, Resource and Management Department will host a webinar on completing FEMA elevation certificates from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5.

Environmental engineer Del Schwalls, president of Schwalls Consulting in Orlando, will be the speaker. He has more than 20 years of experience in floodplain management, hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, and water resources engineering.

Surveyors, Florida licensed professional engineers, developers, contractors and government employees who are involved with planning, development and building are encouraged to participate.

To register, contact Sally Cook at training@FLFloods.org or 205-336-2338.

As part of the National Flood Insurance Program, Volusia County is required to collect and maintain elevation certificates for structures that are built within special flood hazard areas. FEMA evaluates these certificates each year for 90% accuracy.
