Welcome 2022 at the beach
Posted On: December 29, 2021
What better way to ring in the new year or celebrate the first day of 2022 than on the sand. Volusia County welcomes residents and visitors to celebrate the holiday on the beach, but asks that everyone follow the rules to ensure the weekend is enjoyable for all.
To accommodate increased visitors to the beach over the holiday, Volusia County has opened all in-season vehicular beach access ramps for use through Jan. 2. Currently, the beach is open to vehicles from sunrise to sunset, tides permitting. Beach parking is also available at the county’s many off-beach parking lots.
Visitors are reminded to leave the fireworks to the professionals, or run the risk of serious repercussions. Use and/or possession of fireworks is prohibited on Volusia County beaches, and individuals in possession of fireworks on the beach will have fireworks confiscated and may be arrested. Florida Senate Bill 140 regarding the use of fireworks on designated holidays does not apply to Volusia County beaches. Fireworks cannot be used on the beach, at beachfront parks or access points (including ramps and walkovers.)
Alcohol, glass containers and pets are also prohibited on Volusia County beaches.
Those who decide to brave the cooler water should swim in front of a staffed lifeguard tower.
Beachgoers should leave only footprints and remove all items, especially trash, that they bring to the beach. Items left on the beach can create obstacles and hazards for emergency workers, pedestrians and wildlife. Trash and recycle cans are placed at regular intervals along the beach, and environmentally friendly bags are available upon request at toll booths.
