The Volusia Forever Advisory Committee will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday, March 10, in the county council chambers of the Thomas C. Kelly Administration Center, 123 W. Indiana Ave., DeLand.
Approved by taxpayers in 2000 and 2020, Volusia Forever finances the acquisition and improvement of lands that are environmentally sensitive, protect water resources or provide outdoor recreation, as well as working forests and farmlands. During the first 20 years, Volusia Forever funded the conservation of 39,093 acres throughout the county.
The committee accepted applications for land purchase from Oct. 1 to Nov. 15 and received 26 applications from landowners representing 10,872 acres. The Volusia Forever fund currently has $7.2 million available for land acquisitions.
During the March 10 meeting, committee members will sort eligible properties into the acquisition priority categories for County Council consideration. Individuals can register to attend virtually. The agenda package will be posted at www.volusia.org/forever-advisory.
