County Council members to attend MDC event

Posted On: March 14, 2022

Two or more member of the Volusia County Council plan to attend the Marine Discovery Center’s 25th anniversary celebration from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 19, in the center’s pavilion and hunter amphitheater.

Volusia ECHO, a taxpayer approved initiative, has partnered with the Marine Discovery Center on three projects since 2010 to provide marine environmental education and community outreach. In total, $1,151,042 of ECHO funds were leveraged with $1,166,026 of Marine Discovery Center matching funds. The completed projects include building renovations, increasing access to the water for non-motorized vessels and enhancements to the current facility by constructing an amphitheater, outdoor classroom and kayak launch. The latest ECHO project, which is still in progress, includes enhancing the welcome center by adding trails and indoor and outdoor exhibits featuring Florida's coastal flora and fauna.
