Celebrate poetry at the DeLand Regional Library
Posted On: March 25, 2022
Poems offer wisdom, uplifting ideas and language that prompt reflection and help us slow down and center mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
Join the poetry revival at the DeLand Regional Library, 130 E. Howry Ave., which will celebrate National Poetry Month with a trio of programs.
Volusia County Poet Laureate Dr. David Axelrod will explain why poetry is an important part of our daily lives at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 13. Dr. Axelrod is an award-winning poet, author, professor and editor who has been published in hundreds of magazines and anthologies. He received three Fulbright Awards and was the first official Fulbright poet-in-residence in the People’s Republic of China. The New York Times described him as “A treat!”
The library will host an open mic program from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 23. Poets, songwriters, lyricists and singers can regale the audience with three minutes of their poetry.
Unlock your inner poet during Appy Hour at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 26. Discover free mobile poetry apps that can help you find poems and create your own poetry. Bring your smartphone or tablet to get started. Library staff will be available to answer questions regarding your mobile device.
Reservations are not required for these free programs. For more information, call the library at 386-822-6430.
