Lake Helen library kicks off summer kids’ programs

Posted On: May 21, 2022

The staff of the Lake Helen Public Library, 221 N. Euclid Ave., will help parents keep their children busy during the long, hot summer.

Kids can earn prizes in the summer reading challenge from June 6 through Aug. 12 by reading at least four days each week on the Beanstack app.

Children in grades K-5 can stop by anytime to take part in a sea life scavenger hunt. They will receive a prize when they’re done.

All ages are invited to color a nautical coloring page and turn it in to the front desk to have it displayed on the library’s walls.

 Interactive programs will include:

  • Pirates of the ZOOribbean: 10 a.m. Friday, June 17 Volunteers from the Central Florida Zoo will explore the true treasures of a pirate’s life: amazing and coastal and island animals. They will bring along five animal ambassadors.
  • Fire safety: 10 a.m. Friday, July 8. Firefighters from Volusia County Fire Rescue will share safety tips and show kids how a fire truck operates.
  • Sheriff’s Office: 10 a.m. Friday, July 22. A sheriff’s deputy will provide safety information with hands-on activities.
  • End of summer bash: 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 4. Ventriloquist Jacki Manna and her puppets will share their love for reading and the library. The program will include sing-alongs, jokes and interaction.

Registration is not required.  For more information, call the library at call 386-228-1152.
