County requests input on fairgrounds plan

The Volusia County Fairgrounds is known for, well, the Volusia County Fair and more recently as the site for COVID-19 testing. But with more than 100 acres, three huge arenas, a large exhibit hall and loads of classroom space, it could be so much more.

Volusia County – in partnership with the University of Florida, Volusia County Fair and Youth Show, Farm Bureau and Cattlemen’s Association – is conducting a master planning process to strengthen and improve the Volusia County Fairgrounds as a community hub for agricultural and other community activities and events.

County staff members will kick things off with a community meeting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 16, in the Hester Building at the Volusia County Fairgrounds, 3100 E. New York Ave., DeLand.

They will seek input from residents to help them develop a Volusia County Fairgrounds Master Plan. Participants will be actively engaged in identifying key priorities, projects and initiatives that will help Volusia County take advantage of future opportunities and possibilities for the fairgrounds.
