Are you ready to camp in the boonies?

Are you ready to unplug and get away from it all? Thanks to Volusia County’s voter approved Volusia Forever program, residents and visitors can enjoy some peace and quiet in seven primitive campsites in five conservation areas.
The county’s Resource Stewardship Division has launched a new webpage where residents can view the location and a photo of each site and make online reservations in these conservation areas:
- Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve, Turnbull Bay Road, New Smyrna Beach. This site is accessible by canoe or kayak only. Amenities include a fire ring with grill grate and a canoe and kayak landing. Allowable uses are camping, hiking, biking, kayaking and fishing.
- Hickory Bluff Preserve, 700 River Camp Trail, Osteen. Amenities at the Riverside and Hammock campsites include a fire ring with grill grate, a pavilion and port-o-let. Allowable uses are camping, hiking, biking, horseback riding, kayaking and fishing.
- Lake George Forest Wildlife Management Area, Pierson. Amenities at the 915 Powerline Road campsite include a fire ring with grill grate and a port-o-let at Lake George Park, which is a quarter mile away. Amenities at the Buddy Martin Road campsite include a fire ring with grill grate. Allowable uses at both sites are camping, hiking, biking, horseback riding, kayaking, fishing. Hunting, which is regulated through the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, is also permitted.
- Longleaf Pine Preserve, 720 Old Sawmill Road, DeLand. Amenities include a fire ring with grill grate, a pavilion, port-o-let, and a large field to park several vehicles. Allowable uses are camping, hiking, biking, horseback riding and fishing.
- Wiregrass Prairie Preserve, 1899 Camp Prairie Trail, Osteen. Amenities include group camping and two fire rings with grill grates. Allowable uses are camping, hiking, biking and horseback riding.
