Walk of Terror returns to DeLand library
Posted On: September 17, 2022
Visit the DeLand Regional Library, 130 E. Howry Ave., for a variety of Halloween themed programs in October.
Step into the story as the library hosts the seventh annual Walk of Terror. Activities during opening night, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 26, will include themed crafts and activities and a walk through the “poisonous garden,” where Nathaniel Hawthorne’s gothic short story “Rappacini’s Daughter” will be featured. The garden, which may be too spooky for young children, will be open during library hours until Sunday, Oct. 30.
Other spooky programs include:
- Poisonous plants: 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4. Master gardeners from the University of Florida/Volusia County Extension will discuss poisonous plants and answer gardening questions.
- DIY mini bog garden: 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12. Learn what a mini bog garden is and receive all the elements, including a carnivorous starter plant, needed to create one of your own. Registration is required; call the library at 386-822-6430.
- Tales from the haunted Ocala National Forest: Noon Saturday, Oct. 22. Christopher Balzono will share weird first-hand accounts and urban legends from the towns of the forest. Balzano is a writer, researcher, folklorist and host of the Tripping on Legends podcast.
Registration is required only for the bog garden program. Call the library at 386-822-6430.
