Ian Update 35: County offices, libraries, schools, landfill and parks

Volusia County’s Emergency Operations Center remains at full activation, and the Citizens Information Center continues to handle a large volume of calls.


Volusia County Government offices

Volusia County Government offices will reopen Monday, Oct. 3.


Volusia County Public Library

Six branches of the Volusia County Public Library system are open during normal hours Saturday and Sunday with fully functional internet connections, public access computers, and Wi-Fi for users who bring their own devices:

  • DeBary Public Library
  • Deltona Regional Library
  • Edgewater Public Library
  • Hope Place Public Library
  • New Smyrna Beach Regional Library
  • Ormond Beach Regional Library


Volusia County Schools

Volusia County Schools will reopen Wednesday, Oct. 5.


Tomoka Landfill and West Volusia Transfer Station

The Tomoka Landfill and West Volusia Transfer Station will be open Saturday and Sunday at these times:

  • Tomoka Landfill, 1990 Tomoka Farms Road, Port Orange: 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • West Volusia Transfer Station, 3151 E. New York Ave., DeLand: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Due to minor flooding at the entrance, the Tomoka Landfill is currently limited to commercial vehicles. When the waters recede, the landfill will be open to residential customers as well. In the meantime, residents may use the West Volusia Transfer Station.


County parks

The following county-maintained parks have reopened:

  • Barkley Square Dog Park, DeLand
  • Ed Stone Park, DeLand (the boat ramp is closed)
  • Hester Park, DeLeon Springs
  • Hope Place Play Yard, Daytona Beach
  • Lake Dias Park, DeLeon Springs
  • Michael Crotty Bicentennial Park, Ormond Beach
  • Seville Village Park, Seville
  • Sylvester Bruten Park, DeLand (one pavilion is closed due to flooding)

These parks will open by 5 p.m. Saturday:

  • Cypress Lakes Park, DeLand
  • Spring Hill Park, DeLand

All boat ramps remain closed. Some barriers are being damaged by boaters going around them.


Citizens Information Center

The Citizens Information Center remains open 24/7 to answer questions and provide information. Residents can call 866-345-0345.
