DeLand library hosts adult programs

Posted On: October 20, 2022

Adults can take part in a variety of free programs at the DeLand Regional Library, 130 E. Howry Ave., in November.

  • Sew it seams: 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2. Shirt missing a button? Pants need a patch? Bring an item that needs to be mended or patched and learn how to fix it the first Wednesday of each month. Sewing machines and assorted supplies will be available in the library classroom, along with library staff to provide assistance. This program is sponsored by the Volusia County Public Library and Friends of the DeLand Library.
  • How to write a novel after retirement: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 17. Celebrate National Novel Writing Month with local author Ann Magaha. Drawing upon examples from her own novel, “Aldrich, MO, POP. 199,” she will focus upon the great advantage of age and experience in the creation of character, conflict and theme. Magaha will also examine the importance and means of inventing a sense of place.
  • Laughter yoga: 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19. Join advanced laughter yoga leader Donna Marie O'Malley for a time of unconditional laughter, or laughing for no reason at all. She will help participants open up laughter channels and guide them through various exercises. All exercises can be done from the comfort of a chair. Special equipment and clothing are not necessary.
  • Get to know the Council on Aging: 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29. Doreen Willet, community engagement liaison with the Council on Aging of Volusia County, will explain the variety of services and volunteer opportunities for seniors.

Registration is not required. For more information, visit www.volusialibrary.org or call the library at 386-822-6430.
