Update 2: Citizens Information Center opens, Disaster Recovery Center closes
Posted On: November 8, 2022
Citizens Information Center is open
The Volusia County Citizens Information Center (CIC) is open until 5 p.m. today. Residents may call 866-345-0345 to learn about resources such as sandbags, shelters and road closures pertaining to Subtropical Storm Nicole.
Information regarding future dates and times of the CIC’s operations will be announced later today.
Disaster Recover Center to close
Due to the potential impacts of Subtropical Storm Nicole, the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) at the Florida Department of Health-Volusia, 1845 Holsonback Drive, Daytona Beach, will close at 6 p.m. today. An announcement will be made when the DRC is able to reopen.
Residents may apply for assistance without visiting the DRC at disasterassistance.gov, the FEMA mobile app or by calling 800-621-3362. For updates regarding Subtropical Storm Nicole, visit volusia.org/pin or call the CIC at 866-345-0345.
Volusia County Fair to close
The Volusia County Fair will be closed on Nov. 8 and 9 to prepare and secure the property for Subtropical Storm Nicole’s arrival. The Market Swine show will proceed as originally scheduled at 6 p.m. this evening; however, it will be open only to exhibitors and their guardians. Additionally, poultry and other small animals must be checked out by 5 p.m. today.
Representatives will announce as soon as possible when it is safe to reopen the fair, including the dates and times of the Market Steer Show, Market Auction and Goat Shows.
Beach parks and access points
All Volusia County beach parks and access points are closed until further notice. In preparation for the storm, Coastal Division staff will remove cones and barricades throughout the day to prevent potential asset loss due to expected high winds and waves.
Residents and visitors are strongly discouraged from visiting the beach and entering the ocean. Once the tide is too high, rescue vehicles will not be able to access the beach.
