Community listening sessions to address resiliency of A1A

Posted On: January 11, 2023

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has formed the State Road A1A Resiliency Strike Team to repair and strengthen approximately 13 miles of A1A. The working group includes staff from the FDOT, Volusia County, and other partners from Flagler County and the City of Flagler Beach. Public Works Director Ben Bartlett and Coastal Director Jessica Fentress are among the representatives from Volusia County.

As part of the FDOT’s resiliency plan, there will be two public meetings for public input on the future of A1A.  The meetings will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, at Ormond Memorial Art Museum and Gardens, 78 E. Granada Blvd., Ormond Beach, and Tuesday, Jan. 24, at Santa Maria del Mar Catholic Church Parish Hall, 915 N. Central Ave., Flagler Beach. The same information will be presented at both listening sessions.

“We are looking forward to exploring ways to improve the condition of A1A on our coastline,” said Bartlett. “This road plays a pivotal role in the daily lives of our beachside residents, and we want to do everything we can to protect not only A1A, but the adjacent beaches and dunes.”

Two or more county council members may attend the Ormond Beach meeting.
