DeBary Hall plans February events

From bike rides to wildlife and Living History Day, DeBary Hall Historic Site will offer a variety of programs in February that are sure to be a hoot. Upcoming events include:

Historic bike tour: 9 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2. Take a free, guided bike tour from DeBary Hall to Lake Monroe Park and back. The tour guides will explain the area’s history. The nine-mile ride will include several stops along the way. Participants must bring a bicycle and helmet. Sunscreen and bottled water are recommended. Children over 12 are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult. Reservations are required.

Safe in the woods: 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2. During part two of this series, master naturalist and frequent hiker Roger Fulton will cover what to do in the woods or on the water and what to do when you encounter other users, critters or unusual situations.

Lemonade Lecture: Florida trails: 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4. From St. Augustine to Titusville, from Daytona to Orlando, join snowbird Edith Kohlbach as she showcases the beautiful multipurpose trails of Florida. Kohlbach will discuss the trails you can access by using SunRail. This presentation is part of the free Lemonade Lectures series.

Master Gardener: Plant familiarization: 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8. Join Howard Jeffries, a master gardener with the UF/IFAS Extension Volusia County, for a presentation about Florida friendly landscaping.

Get stepping with line dancing lessons: 5:30 p.m. Thursdays, Feb. 9 and 23. Line dancing is a great way to exercise your mind and body. Join DeBary Hall staff for a fun evening full of learning beginner line dances to various music genres. There is a $3 charge for each class.

Story time at DeBary Hall: 9:30 a.m. Fridays, Feb. 10 and 24. Children are invited to Kids Corner, a free story time featuring stories, songs and activities. The program is designed for preschoolers, but children of all ages are welcome.

6th Annual Living History Day: 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11. History will come to life at this family friendly event, featuring a Civil War reenactment camp, guided tours of the 150-year-old winter hunting estate with reenactors portraying various members of the DeBary family, historical presentations, Victorian games and crafts, and more.

Wildlife Talk: Owls: 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18. Join local author and wildlife enthusiast Marcia Meara to learn about the owls that call central Florida home.
