Demolition of old elections building will affect county parking lot
Posted On: April 14, 2023
Volusia County Government will demolish the old elections building on the southwest corner of the intersection of Florida and Rich avenues. Once the demolition is complete, the space will be used to expand the adjacent parking area, and the existing parking lot will be rehabilitated and upgraded. Public Works staff will make every effort to make the process convenient for county employees and the public.
Here’s the estimated construction schedule:
- Phase I: Building demolition will take place from May 1 to June 23. Construction of the eastern portion of the parking lot will take place from June 6 to Aug. 12.
- Phase II: Construction will take place on the western portion of the parking lot from Aug. 14 to Oct. 28.
To allow for the building's demolition, a portion of the parking area adjacent to the building, including the eastern driveway on Rich Avenue, will be closed for the contractor's use. Throughout Phase I, county employees and the public may enter and exit through the parking lot’s west entrance on Rich Avenue. Once Phase I is complete, the western portion of the parking lot will be closed, and employees and the public will use the east entrance for access during Phase II.
The project is scheduled for completion by Oct. 28. Dates may change due to unforeseen circumstances, such as weather.
