Posted On: May 2, 2023
The division oversees Votran’s administrative functions, including finance, grants, accounting, planning, marketing, outreach, routes, scheduling, purchases and contract management. First Transit, a transportation management firm based in Ohio, will continue to handle bus operation, customer service, maintenance, dispatch and safety.
King, a New Smyrna Beach resident, began her career working for Volusia County as a paralegal in the Sheriff’s Office in 1997. She then served as an activity project manager for the Parks, Recreation and Culture Division from 2001 to 2014, overseeing environmental and outdoor recreation, the Volusia ECHO program, and operations of maintenance and park facilities.
She joined the Public Protection Department in 2014 as activity project manager, assisting with key projects in the Corrections and Fire Rescue divisions and submitting successful grant awards. Since 2020, she has served as the county’s operations manager for Votran.
“Over the past few years, Ms. King helped identify much needed changes and is working on ideas to put Votran in a better position for success going forward,” said County Manager George Recktenwald. “As division director, she will oversee a small, but proficient team will help move the organization through change and manage several upcoming service model changes that are in the works for Votran.”
Volusia County Council members approved her appointment unanimously during their May 2 meeting.
