Volusia County bans front-elevated vehicles on the beach
Posted On: August 21, 2023
Volusia County has taken another measure to bolster safety on the county's beach by banning front-elevated vehicles. During the Aug. 15 meeting, the modification, as requested by Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood, was unanimously approved by the County Council. The ban is in immediate effect as of today, Aug. 21.
The modification will ensure beach drivers have an unobstructed view while driving on the county's beach. Motor vehicles that exhibit suspension, frame or chassis adjustments resulting in a front fender height alteration exceeding four inches compared to the rear fender height will not be permitted. The stipulation defines "fender" as the contoured component installed over a vehicle's road wheels, designed to curtail the dispersion of mud, water or similar substances.
