More Pickleball Popping Up in Volusia County with Three New Courts Now Open in Ormond Beach

Posted On: November 28, 2023

Recreation enthusiasts have reason to celebrate as three new pickleball courts have been added to Michael Crotty Bicentennial Park in Ormond Beach. The highly anticipated courts came as a response to the rapid growth and popularity of pickleball in the area.

"Bicentennial Park has always been a hub for the community to get out and enjoy Volusia County," said Parks, Recreation and Culture Director Tim Baylie. “The addition of pickleball courts not only expands recreational opportunities but also allows pickleball players to play in a designated space, unique to their sport.”

With pickleball being named the fastest growing sport in America, Volusia County Parks, Recreation and Culture recognized the trend and responded by adding pickleball courts on both the east and west side of the county. In addition to the new courts at Bicentennial Park, two new courts opened at DeLeon Spring’s Chuck Lennon Park this month. All courts were funded through the voter-approved Volusia ECHO (Environmental, Cultural, Historical, and Outdoor Recreation) Program and park impact fees which finance the cost of additional infrastructure necessitated by new development.
