Get back to nature with Green Volusia Volunteers and Be Floridian Now, which are planning two volunteer opportunities in January.

Tomoka Landfill tour and cleanup: 9 a.m. to noon Friday, Jan. 12. Learn about the importance of proper trash disposal at Tomoka Landfill. See what happens to trash after it’s brought to the landfill and participate in the Adopt-a-Road program by doing a roadside cleanup. Meet at Tomoka Landfill, 1990 Tomoka Farms Road, Port Orange, and park at the building on the right. This program is sponsored by Green Volusia Volunteers. Space is limited to 10 people.

Nature walk and cleanup: 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Jan. 16. Learn about the shorebirds, mangroves and invasive species of Mosquito Lagoon, and be on the lookout for manatees and dolphins. Afterward, the group will clean up trash items along the shore and boat ramp area. Meet at Riverbreeze Park, 250 H.H. Burch Road, Oak Hill. This program is sponsored by Green Volusia Volunteers and Be Floridian Now.

All ages are welcome. Reservations are required; contact Holly Giles at hgiles@volusia.org or 386-736-5927, ext. 12330, or search for Green Volusia activities on Eventbrite.com.
