Cold Weather Shelters to Open
Posted On: December 27, 2023
In anticipation of the expected temperature decrease, emergency cold weather shelters will be operational on the nights of Friday, Dec. 29, and Saturday, Dec. 30. These shelters serve as essential safe havens for those lacking sufficient home heating and for individuals without housing.
On the county's west side, The Neighborhood Center's The Bridge, 421 S. Palmetto Ave., DeLand, is opening its doors to those seeking shelter. Guests must check in between the hours of 6 to 8 p.m. For additional details or support, call 386-734-8120 ext. 601.
Residents on the county's east side can access shelter services coordinated by Halifax Urban Ministries (HUM) in partnership with local churches. To arrange for sheltering, contact HUM at 386-317-5886.
For individuals requiring transportation assistance to these shelters, it is recommended that they contact the organization on their side of the county for arrangements. Additional information about cold weather safety is available at www.volusia.org/coldweather.
