Learn how to add understory to your landscape

Kalan Taylor, director of the UF/IFAS Extension Volusia County, will share tips to help homeowners “garden under the trees” and add colorful plants during a free presentation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at the Ormond Beach Regional Library, 30 S. Beach St.

By creating a layer of shrubs, small trees, and wildflowers beneath the tall trees, homeowners can provide a habitat for birds and pollinators while making a more visually interesting landscape.

This event is sponsored by Volusia County's ReGrow the Loop initiative, which was created by the County Council to enhance the 30-mile double loop of roadways through education, awareness, and collaboration. Volusia County, UF/IFAS Extension Volusia County, and other local organizations are collaborating to eradicate invasive plant species, increase native vegetation, attract more wildlife and pollinators, and bring about sustainability practices to those who care about the Loop.

Registration is required; visit http://tinyurl.com/under-story. For more information, contact Sheila Hutchinson at 386-822-5778 or volusia@ifas.ufl.edu.

Two or more County Council members may attend this event.
