F is for February, Fun, and Frederick de Bary this month at DeBary Hall Historic Site. Check out the list of exciting things happening at the historic site.
Get Stepping with Line Dancing Lessons: 5:30 p.m. Thursdays, Feb. 1, 15, and 29. Line dancing is a great way to exercise your mind and body. Join DeBary Hall staff for a fun evening full of learning beginner line dances to various music genres. There is a $3 charge for each class and registration is required; call 386-668-3840 or email lperez@volusia.org to sign up.
Story time at DeBary Hall: 9:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2 and 16. Children are invited to Kids Corner, a free story time featuring stories, songs, and activities. The program is designed for preschoolers, but children of all ages are welcome.
Lemonade Lecture: Travel by Trail: 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10. Join avid cyclist Edith Kohlbach as she shares her adventures on European trails. From Spain to Germany to France, Edith will share photos and stories of the trails she’s ridden and compare them to Florida’s paved trail system. This presentation is part of the free Lemonade Lectures series sponsored by Volusia County. Light refreshments and lemonade will be served.
Master Gardener: Spring Into Vegetable Gardening: 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13. Guests will learn how to prepare a spring vegetable garden. Knowledgeable Master Gardeners will lead you through the essential steps to ensure planting success. Learn the secrets of effective planning, from selecting the right vegetables to soil preparation and planting techniques. Plus, our Master Gardeners will have seeds to share, jumpstarting your garden.
Historic Bike Tour: Lake Beresford: 9 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14. Take a free, guided bike tour along the Spring-to-Spring trail from Lake Beresford Park, 2100 Fatio Road, DeLand to Blue Spring State Park. Participants will learn about local history, native plants, and more during this 8-mile ride. There will be a $2 fee for entry into Blue Spring State Park. Participants must bring a bicycle and helmet. Sunscreen, snacks, and bottled water are recommended. Children over 12 are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult. Reservations are required.
Frederick de Bary Day: 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. Saturday, February 17. In 1998, the City of DeBary proclaimed the third Saturday in February to be Frederick de Bary Day. DeBary Hall Historic Site will be offering exclusive guided tours of the 153-year-old winter hunting estate with de Bary Family re-enactors to commemorate this significant day. Representatives from the City of DeBary will also be at the event offering special giveaways while supplies last. Registration is required; please call 386-668-3840 to reserve your ticket and ticket time for this memorable experience. Admission is $4 for seniors (50 years of age and older), $5 for adults, and $2 for children (ages 3 to 12).
