Section 8 Applicants Required to Complete Annual Questionnaire
Posted On: March 27, 2024
Residents who applied for the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) Program through Volusia County are asked to update their information by completing an annual questionnaire that will be mailed to them on March 28.
Applicants must complete the form and return it to Community Assistance by Friday, April 12. Those who do not respond by the deadline will be removed from the waiting list. Address changes will not be accepted at this time.
The letter will explain that applicants whose household includes a disabled adult who is between 18 and 61 years old and is homeless or at risk of becoming homeless may be considered for temporary assistance. Those who wish to be considered will be asked to submit verifying documentation, such as a benefits letter from the Social Security Administration or documentation from a medical professional.
There are currently 1,662 applicants on the waiting list. Volusia County is not accepting new Section 8 applications at this time. The last time the waiting list was opened was March 24, 2022.
The Housing Choice Voucher Program is a federally funded rental assistance program designed to help very-low-income families, the elderly, and the disabled obtain decent, safe, and sanitary housing at an affordable price in the private market. Participants may choose any housing that meets the requirements of the program.
