The Volusia County Council, during its meeting on Tuesday, June 4, provided its preliminary approval of the updated Five-Year Capital Projects Plan. This plan is an integral part of the County's annual budgeting process and details a strategic approach for developing and maintaining capital assets, including public infrastructure and facilities, over the next five years.
If approved in the FY 2024-25 budget, it will enable substantial investments in infrastructure, totaling more than $168 million. These funds will be allocated toward a broad range of capital projects to enhance public services and fortify community infrastructure. The investments cover capital replacement projects, small capital projects, and capital improvement projects across various County departments.
The plan highlights several major initiatives, including significant road maintenance and facility renovations, which are critical to ensuring the safety and efficiency of County operations. Notable road projects include widening several key thoroughfares and improving infrastructure to support increased traffic flow and enhance road safety. Facility maintenance projects encompass upgrades to coastal maintenance facilities and public safety buildings.
Each project within the plan is categorized and detailed with funding sources, division responsibilities, and projected timelines. The capital projects plan underscores the County's dedication to improving the quality of life for residents through the effective use of public funds. It addresses current community needs and prepares for future demands, focusing on improved infrastructure and enhanced public services.
