Volusia County Breaks Ground on the Veterans Memorial Plaza in Daytona Beach
Posted On: June 20, 2024
Volusia County broke ground on the new Veterans Memorial Plaza. Located adjacent to the Tom Staed Veterans Memorial Bridge in Daytona Beach, the plaza will serve as a tribute to the brave individuals who have selflessly served and made sacrifices for our nation.
The plaza will feature amphitheater seating, a 6-foot fire feature monument with plaques along the sides engraved with the names of Volusia County soldiers who gave their life in the line of duty, and plaques next to each flag representing different branches of the armed forces. The estimated $1.2 million cost for the Veterans Memorial Plaza will be funded through a collaboration of resources including Volusia County, a Volusia County ECHO Grant, the Daytona Beach Recreation and Facilities District, and donations from Veterans Memorial Plaza Inc.
Personalized bricks to be engraved with veterans' names for placement at the front of the plaza are available for purchase. For further details on purchasing a brick, visit www.VolusiaVeterans.com. Design for the project was completed by Dredging and Marine Consultants and construction will be completed by MGN Contracting. The Veterans Memorial Plaza plans to open before the end of the year with a celebratory ribbon cutting.
