This July, Explore Volusia has something for everyone. Below are all the events and registration is mandatory. Sunset Snorkeling Adventure:
When: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 1
Where: Lighthouse Point Park, 5000 S. Atlantic Ave., Ponce Inlet
Requirements: Ages 8 and up are welcome, and children must be accompanied by an adult. Participants must have their own snorkeling gear and know how to swim. Participants must wear closed-toe shoes that can get wet. We recommend that participants under the age of 12 wear a personal flotation device (PFD).
Come along for an evening session of snorkeling at Ponce Inlet. Along the way, learn about the marine life in this beautiful underwater ecosystem.
Bioluminescence Paddle:
When: 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 9
Where: River Breeze Park, 274 H. H. Burch Road, Oak Hill
Requirements: Ages 10 and up are welcome, and children must be accompanied by an adult. Paddlers must bring their own watercraft, personal flotation device (PFD), whistle, and an electric white light (flashlight, lantern, or headlamp). Participants must wear closed-toe shoes that can get wet.
Join Explore Volusia for a night-time paddle through Mosquito Lagoon and explore the beauty of bioluminescence. Come learn all about these tiny organisms and what makes them glow.
Aquatic Animal Dip Net Adventure:
When: 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, July 18
Where: Hickory Bluff Preserve, 598 Guise Road, Osteen
Requirements: All ages are welcome, and children must be accompanied by an adult. Participants must wear closed-toe shoes that can get wet.
Come wade in the waters of the St. Johns River. Use dip nets and seine nets to study the aquatic life living in this freshwater, riverine ecosystem.
Shark Week Paddle:
When: 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 23
Where: Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve, Sleepy Hollow Access, 3251 N. Dixie Freeway, New Smyrna Beach
Requirements: Ages 10 and up are welcome, and children must be accompanied by an adult. Paddlers must bring their own watercraft, personal flotation device (PFD), and whistle. Participants must wear closed-toe shoes that can get wet.
Join Explore Volusia for Shark Week on a paddling trip through the mangroves of Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve. Learn about bull sharks, bonnethead sharks, and fisheries management while paddling through this amazingly diverse estuary.
