Volusia County Welcomes Young Lifeguards for Statewide Championships

Volusia County is set to host the 2024 Statewide Junior Lifeguard Competition Championships, welcoming young competitors from across Florida. The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, on the beach behind the Hard Rock Hotel, 918 N. Atlantic Ave., Daytona Beach.

"This competition isn't just about showcasing skills; it's a glimpse into the future of beach safety," said Interim Beach Safety Director Tammy Malphurs. "This is the next generation of lifeguards who will guard our beaches in Volusia County and the state."

Competitors, including a team from Volusia County, will be grouped into three age categories: 9-10, 11-12, and 13-15. They will demonstrate their skills in boarding, swimming, paddling, and rescue events. The event is open to the public, and admission is free.
