The State of Florida will launch its second Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday of 2024 on Saturday, Aug. 24, continuing through Friday, Sept. 6. During this period, residents can purchase qualifying disaster preparedness supplies tax-free. The tax holiday offers financial relief and encourages residents to prepare emergency kits during peak hurricane season.

Eligible items for tax exemption include but are not limited to:

  • Pet leashes, collars, and muzzles priced at $20 or less,
  • Flashlights, lanterns, and pet beds priced at $40 or less,
  • Batteries and weather radios priced at $50 or less,
  • Coolers priced at $60 or less,
  • Smoke detectors priced at $70 or less,
  • Tarps priced at $100 or less,
  • Generators priced at $3,000 or less.

A comprehensive list of tax-free items is available on the Florida Department of Revenue's website at www.floridarevenue.com/disasterprep.

Residents and visitors should use multiple sources for official information during hurricane events. The County encourages downloading the new Emergency Management app, following the County's official social media accounts, subscribing to the newsletter, and visiting the County's website for updates.
