Edwin W. Peck Sr. Park is Ready to Welcome Visitors Back
Posted On: August 27, 2024
Volusia County will reopen the majority of amenities at Edwin W. Peck Sr. Park in Daytona Beach Shores on Saturday, Aug. 31. The parking lot, playground, ADA-accessible beach ramp, and fitness area will be available for public use once again. While the bathroom facilities will remain closed until mid-September, the County will provide portable restrooms for visitors' convenience until the power can be restored.
Recognizing the importance of restoring public beach access to the community, particularly with the Labor Day holiday weekend approaching, the County prioritized opening the park as soon as it was safe to do so. Although some repairs, such as those to the restrooms, are still underway, the decision was made to ensure residents and visitors could enjoy the park's amenities without further delay.
Edwin W. Peck Sr. Park, which opened in 2022, sustained significant damage from Hurricanes Ian and Nicole. To restore the park, the County replaced the seawall, which was 75% damaged by the hurricanes, installed new utility connections, constructed a new ADA dune walkover ramp, and replaced the shower towers.
In addition to the newly reopened amenities, the park offers over 100 off-beach parking spaces, bike racks, and grills. The park will operate from sunrise to sunset, with parking prohibited between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.
