Volusia County Offers $5 Million to Reimburse Landlords for Hurricane Ian Repairs

Volusia County's Transform386 initiative is now accepting applications for its Rental Repair Program, which aims to restore the affordable rental housing stock in the county. The program offers $5 million in funding to reimburse landlords for repairs already made to their rental properties damaged by Hurricane Ian.

The Rental Repair Program can reimburse up to $50,000 per unit, with a maximum of eight units per landlord. The reimbursement assistance is available for rental properties with four or fewer attached units in Volusia County that were either occupied by renters or available for rent at the time of the storm. The landlord must still maintain ownership of the rental property.

Participating landlords will be required to adhere to a twenty-year affordability period that requires the owner(s) to lease the unit(s) to low-to-moderate income households earning 80% or less of the county's area median income and to lease the units at affordable rental fees. Landlords will also have to maintain insurance, including flood, wind, and/or hazard insurance, as mandated by federal, state, and local regulations.
