Library and Health Clinic Reopen on Keech Street

The Volusia County Council and Florida Department of Health – Volusia celebrated the reopening of the John H. Dickerson Heritage Library and Southside Health Center on Keech Street, Daytona Beach, with a ribbon cutting ceremony today, Sept. 23.

Speakers were District 2 County Council Member Matt Reinhart, Daytona Beach City Manager Deric Feacher, Florida Department of Health Administrator and Health Officer Stephen Civitelli, and Library Services Director Lucinda Colee.

“As we remember all too well, Hurricane Ian wreaked havoc on our inland communities just two years ago,” Reinhart said. “The library and health clinic were flooded, requiring extensive restoration, and the results are amazing. The library and health department staffs have worked to ensure the continuation of services throughout the two-year restoration project, and I couldn’t be prouder of them!”

The complex, which underwent a two-year restoration following extensive flooding in 2022, serves as a hub of learning and community health for Midtown residents. Throughout the restorations, staff was able to provide library services in a modular unit placed in the parking lot.

The brick-and-mortar library is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. It features public access computers and free Wi-Fi, as well as a wide range of library materials and programs for all ages. Library staff is available to help library patrons connect to online resources as well.

The Southside Health Center includes offices for the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program, community health, and immunizations. WIC offices are open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. To schedule an immunization appointment, call 386-274-0509.
