Volusia County Reschedules Public Meetings on Disaster and Floodplain Management Plans

Volusia County has set new dates for two public meetings, originally planned for Oct. 7 and 8 but rescheduled due to Hurricane Milton, in an effort to gather resident input on potential updates to the Local Mitigation Strategy Plan, which aims to reduce disaster risks, and the Floodplain Management Plan, which focuses on minimizing flood risks and enhancing resilience.

These plans are a collaborative effort among Volusia County and the municipalities, with the updated plans requiring presentation and approval from their respective elected bodies.

The two in-person Engagement Sessions will cover the same information, with one session on each side of the county to make it easier for residents to attend. During these sessions, staff will review existing plans, explain the update process, answer questions, and gather public feedback. The meetings are now scheduled as follows:

  • Engagement Session: Monday, Nov. 25, at 5:30 p.m. – DeLand Regional Library, 130 E. Howry Ave.
  • Engagement Session: Tuesday, Nov. 26, at 10 a.m. – Daytona Beach Regional Library, 105 Jackie Robinson Parkway

For those unable to attend one of the Engagement Sessions in person, the presentation materials will be available at www.volusia.org/emergency on Wednesday, Nov. 27. Additionally, separate flood-related surveys are available on the website for private residents, businesses, and homeowners associations.

The Conclusion Meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 13, at the Emergency Operations Center, 3825 Tiger Bay Road. For additional information about the plans or the upcoming meetings, contact Yolanda Buckles at 386-254-1500 or ybuckles@volusia.org.
