Take a historic bike ride, learn how to live with bears, and more at DeBary Hall Historic Site, 198 Sunrise Blvd.
April’s events include:
Line dancing lessons: 5:30 p.m. Thursdays, April 3 and 10. Line dancing is a great way to exercise your mind and body. Join DeBary Hall staff for a fun evening full of beginner line dances to various music genres. This program is recommended for adults. There is a $3 charge for each class.
Story time at DeBary Hall: 9:30 a.m. Fridays, April 4 and 11. Children are invited to Kids Corner, a free series featuring stories, songs, and activities. The program is designed for preschoolers, but children of all ages are welcome.
Understanding the thyroid: 1 p.m. Saturday, April 5. Join Registered Nurse Susan Araujo for an informative presentation on the thyroid, what it does, how to maintain its well-being, and what to do if something isn’t right. She will also look at normal lab values and current treatments. This presentation is part of the free Lemonade Lectures series sponsored by Volusia County. Light refreshments and lemonade will be served.
Feathered friends and fluorishing gardens: 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 8. Attracting birds not only adds beauty and variety to your yard but also plays a crucial role in supporting local wildlife and promoting biodiversity. Explore ways to transform your garden into a bird-friendly haven with one of Volusia County’s master gardeners.
Living with bears: 1 p.m. Friday, April 11. Get ready for bear season with Ashley Jackson, a bear biologist with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. She will cover the biology, behavior, and conservation of the Florida black bear and provide tips on how to stay safe in bear habitats and prevent conflicts.
Historic bike tour: 9 a.m. Thursday, April 24. Travel back in time on two wheels during a nine-mile guided bike ride from DeBary Hall Historic Site to Lake Monroe Park and back. Learn about the area’s history from the Native Americans who inhabited the region thousands of years ago to the development of Gemini Springs Park and more. Bring a bicycle and helmet. Sunscreen and bottled water are also recommended. Children over 12 are welcome if accompanied by an adult. Reservations are required; call 386-668-3840 or email lperez@volusia.org.
