El Portal Drive Beach Ramp to Undergo Long-Term Resiliency Improvements

Volusia County will begin work to replace and strengthen the El Portal Drive vehicular beach access ramp in Daytona Beach Shores, improving the access point’s long-term durability and resiliency to future storm impacts.

The ramp will close Monday, Sept. 28, as construction begins. Following previous storm damage, the County completed repairs necessary to safely restore the ramp to service and maintain beach access. The upcoming project represents a more comprehensive, long-term solution, with the replacement designed in accordance with current coastal engineering and environmental standards to provide resiliency within the dynamic coastal environment.

Through coordination with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the County secured Public Assistance funding to help cover eligible project costs, maximizing available federal resources. Construction is expected to take approximately five months. The El Portal Drive ramp will remain completely closed to vehicles and pedestrians throughout construction to provide a safe work area and allow crews to complete the improvements.
