Nicole update 11: Bridges, Beach Safety, Shelters, Votran

Posted On: November 11, 2022

Bridges

All bridges to the beachside are now open. However, there are areas of Atlantic Avenue in Wilbur-by-the-Sea and Daytona Beach Shores that are off limits to the general public at this time due to ongoing heavy damage assessment and recovery.

Residents may access these areas with proof of residency. Officials ask to at this time only travel if it is for essential purposes.

Beach safety

Even though mandatory evacuation and curfews have been lifted, residents and visitors should stay away from the coastline. The waves and currents are still hazardous and will pose a significant threat to anyone in or near the water.

Additionally, officials still need time to assess damage to all coastal structures. Until further notice, residents and visitors should not traverse piers, walkways or other beach structures. Structures may collapse without notice, even if there are no signs of damage.

Shelters

All shelters are now closed. Officials are working with residents who the storm has displaced to make other temporary housing arrangements.

Votran

Votran has resumed normal operations except for routes 1, 8 and 17. All beachside service is suspended until further notice.

Riders may expect detours on operating routes due to road conditions. Additionally, fares remain suspended but will resume tomorrow, Nov. 12.
