Volusia County Opens Additional Vegetative Debris Disposal Drop-off Site for Residents (1:50 p.m. Oct. 25, 2024)

To aid in the continued recovery efforts following Hurricane Milton, Volusia County, in collaboration with the City of Edgewater, has opened an additional vegetative debris disposable drop-off site at 1990 Air Park Road, Edgewater. Residents can now dispose of vegetative debris, free of charge, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily at the new site as well as the two previously existing ones:

  • Tomoka Landfill, 1990 Tomoka Farms Road, Port Orange
  • Old Plymouth Landfill, 1991 W Plymouth Ave., DeLand

Residents who plan to utilize one of the three vegetative debris drop-off sites must provide identification exhibiting proof of Volusia County residency. Contractors are legally required to dispose of vegetative debris properly and must take all debris to the Tomoka Landfill in Port Orange at 1990 Tomoka Farms Road or the West Volusia Transfer Station in DeLand at 3151 E. New York Ave. Residents can stay updated by following the County’s social media channels or visiting www.volusia.org.

Volusia County Mass Debris Removal Program Starts Friday (4:55 p.m. Oct. 17, 2024)

Volusia County is conducting a mass debris removal operation for households in unincorporated areas, as well as those along County-maintained roads beginning Friday, Oct. 18.

To receive these services, residents who reside in unincorporated areas and those on County-maintained roads can bring storm debris to the public right of way, the area that extends from the street to the sidewalk, ditch, utility pole, or easement. Residents should not place debris on the road as it obstructs traffic, hinders cleanup efforts, and makes it difficult for emergency vehicles to pass. Keep debris away from drainage ditches, inlets, mailboxes, and power lines if possible. Do not cover storm drains, never block fire hydrants, and exercise caution when near debris piles.

The debris should be separated into different piles for vegetative (leaves, branches, and cut trees), construction and demolition materials (carpet, furniture, fences, drywall), and appliances and white goods (refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines, stoves). Do not place vegetative debris in plastic yard waste bags. Combined waste piles and plastic bags will not be picked up.

Due to limited resources, multiple national storm events, and the amount of debris, the County’s Mass Debris Removal Program is projected to be completed by the end of the calendar year. Normal collection rules will apply to those with a small amount of yard debris. Mixed debris piles, electronics, and household hazardous waste will not be collected. Residents can dispose of them free of charge at the Tomoka Landfill or West Volusia Transfer Station.
