Homeschoolers can get back to nature

Homeschooled children can boost their environmental IQ by taking part in nature walks and classroom learning experiences hosted by Lyonia Environmental Center, 2150 Eustace Ave., Deltona. The monthly programs begin Sept. 21.
Programs for grades 3-9 include:
- Turbidity and tannins: 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Sept. 21, at Lake Ashby Park, 4150 Boy Scout Road, New Smyrna Beach
- A walk through history: 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Nov. 16, at Ponce Preserve Park, 4401 Peninsula Drive, Ponce Inlet
- Art in the park: 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Feb. 8, at Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve, 2317 Creek Shore Trail, New Smyrna Beach
- Thanks, plankton! 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, May 10, at Lyonia Environmental Center
Programs for grades 1-9 include:
- By the ancient sea: 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Oct. 12, at Lyonia Environmental Center
- A tree’s story: 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Dec. 14, at Lyonia Environmental Center
- Florida scrub eco-buggy ride: 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Jan. 11, at Lyonia Environmental Center
- Time travelers: 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, March 8, at Gemini Springs Park, 37 Dirksen Drive, DeBary
- Composting: 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, April 12, at Lyonia Environmental Center
