Affordable housing committee to meet Oct. 12

Volusia County’s Affordable Housing Advisory Committee’s public hearing that was originally scheduled in September has been rescheduled to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12. The public hearing on local housing incentive strategies will take place in the County Council Chambers at the Thomas C. Kelly Administration Center, 123 W. Indiana Ave., DeLand.

They will review the following recommendations:

  • Expedited process of development approvals
  • Fee waivers for the development or construction of affordable housing
  • Flexibility in density
  • Reservation of infrastructure capacity
  • Accessory dwelling units
  • Reduction of parking and setback requirements
  • Flexible lot configurations
  • Modification of street requirements
  • Ongoing regulatory review process
  • Surplus land inventory
  • Transportation hubs and transit-oriented development

A copy of the draft report of recommendations is available online at www.volusia.org/reports and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Community Assistance office, 121 W. Rich, DeLand. During the meeting the committee will also review prior meeting minutes and a proposed meeting schedule.

Residents are invited to appear and submit written or oral comments to the recommendations.
