Volusia County Advises Caution as Hurricane Milton Recovery Begins
Posted On: October 10, 2024
Hurricane Milton's worst effects have moved past most of Volusia County, leaving sporadic rain and significant wind gusts, especially beachside, that are expected to subside by late this afternoon. The heaviest rainfall and winds have diminished, and conditions will continue to improve throughout the day.
Volusia County and its partners are actively conducting rescue operations and assessing damage. Persons who are in imminent danger should call 911. Those who need non-life-threatening assistance should contact the Citizens Information Center (CIC) at 866-345-0345.
Despite the improving conditions, residents are strongly advised to avoid unnecessary travel. Many roads still have debris and standing water, posing significant hazards for drivers. As it leaves, the storm's effects will create extremely hazardous conditions along the coast, particularly during high tide. The community is strongly discouraged from visiting the beach today.
Residents who have sustained property damage from the hurricane are urged to document the impact with photos and submit them to assist in the assessment process. To report damage, residents can use the Volusia Emergency Management app, visit the County's website at www.volusia.org, or access the reporting link directly.
Volusia County staff will continue coordinating with state officials and the National Weather Service. The CIC is open 24/7 until further notice; residents can reach the CIC at 866-345-0345. Residents can stay updated by downloading the Volusia Emergency Management app, following the County's social media channels, or visiting www.volusia.org.
