AED Registration: Enhance Community Safety and Response

Volusia County encourages local businesses, organizations, and residents to join in enhancing community safety by registering their Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) with the Emergency Medical Administration Division. By registering your AED, you help create a map of available devices, enabling emergency dispatchers to quickly locate and direct 9-1-1 callers to the nearest AED on the property during cardiac emergencies. This immediate guidance can be lifesaving, providing crucial support until professional medical help arrives.

AEDs are critical in the event of sudden cardiac arrest, as they analyze the heart's rhythm and, if necessary, deliver an electrical shock to help restore a normal rhythm. Quick access to an AED can significantly increase the chances of survival, underscoring the importance of knowing where devices are located during emergencies.

Why Register Your AED?

  • Empower Dispatchers: Allows dispatchers to swiftly guide the public to your AED, making every second count.
  • Save Lives: Enhances the community’s capacity to provide rapid and effective intervention during cardiac crises.

Maintaining Your AED To ensure your AED is ready when needed, regular maintenance is crucial. Check your device regularly to confirm it is functional and the batteries are not expired. Ensure both pediatric and adult pads are available and in good condition and keep a stock of cleaning wipes to maintain device hygiene.
