Hurricane Cost Recovery Updates
Volusia County actively manages disaster cost recovery through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Public Assistance program. When a Federal disaster is declared, FEMA can reimburse the County for a percent of eligible costs, including debris removal, emergency protective measures, and permanent repairs to public infrastructure such as roads, buildings, utilities, and parks. The Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) acts as the passthrough agency for FEMA funds and also provides State matching disaster relief funds. The County's Finance Department tracks all hurricane cost recovery activity and provides periodic updates on each active major disaster declaration. These updates are limited to major disaster declarations, which authorize reimbursement across all FEMA Public Assistance categories (A–G). Emergency declarations authorize more limited assistance and are not included. Where applicable, FEMA public notices required for federally funded projects affecting floodplains, wetlands, or historic properties are also posted on these pages.
