North Sand Placement Project
North Sand Placement Project benefitting properties north of Ponce de Leon Inlet
Hurricanes Ian, Nicole and Milton severely eroded Volusia County’s beaches leaving the shoreline and beach front strucutres vulnerable to future storm events. Using grant funding made available by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) and in partnership with the Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND) and the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) approximately 900,000 cubic yards of beach quality sand will be pumped onto the beach in the Town of Ponce Inlet.
Contractors working for the USACE will shape the beach quality sand into a stockpile that contractors working for Vousia County will excavte, load, truck, deposit and shape behind properties that have provided the County with sand placement easements. Construction is anticipated to start in Spring 2025.
For additional information regarding the projects, please reach out to Niles Cyzycki, Construction Activity Project Manager at ncyzycki@volusia.org or 386-248-8072 ext 20357.
