The End of an Era

During the winter of 1894-1895, a catastrophic freeze wiped out the citrus industry in much of the state, including the extensive deBary groves. Jacob Brock and Frederick deBary died in the last two decades of the 19th century. With the coming of the railroad and the end of steamboat travel, the heyday of Enterprise as a boomtown on the river was coming to a close.
